Courses Offered
Most colleges and universities require their students to take courses from the categories indicated below in the first two years of study. If you are seeking a degree, consult with your advisor for your requirements. Courses are available under all of these major headings; the specific subject areas in which courses are offered are shown in parentheses:
- Foreign Languages (Italian, Latin, Russian, Spanish)
- Humanities (art, English, music, philosophy, religion)
- Social Sciences (African and Afro-American studies, economics, history, political science, psychology, sociology)
- Mathematics (mathematics, statistics)
- Natural Sciences (biology, chemistry, geography).
We also offer courses in accounting, business, health education, hospitality management, and parks, recreation, and tourism management.
Course Numbering
The following numbering systems are used by the institutions offering courses. Lower-level courses are most appropriate at the freshman and sophomore level; upper-level courses are most appropriate at the junior and senior level.
- ASU: 2999 and below, lower level; 3000 through 4999, upper level; 5000 and above, graduate level.
- ECU: below 3000, lower level; 3000 through 4999, upper level; 5000 through 5999, senior/graduate level.
- ECSU and WCU: below 300, lower level; 300 through 500, upper level.
- NCSU: 100 through 299, lower level; 300 through 499, upper level.
- UNC-CH: UNC-CH renumbered all academic courses beginning with fall semester 2006. Under the new numbering system, courses numbered below 200 are lower level, 200-399 are upper level, and 400-699 are advanced/graduate.
- UNCG: below 300, lower level; 300 through 499, upper level; 500 through 599, upper level/graduate.
- WSSU: 1000 through 2999, lower level; 3000 through 4999, upper level.
