In order to enroll in a Part-time Classroom Studies course, you must submit an application by the deadline (see Schedule and Calendars for deadlines). A nonrefundable application fee of $80 is required with all applications except applications for readmission. There is a $25 late fee for applications submitted after the deadline (postbacs only).
The application fee and tuition is waived for permanent employees of UNC-Chapel Hill who work 30 or more hours per week. Tuition (but not the application fee) is waived for permanent employees of UNC Hospitals who work 30 or more hours per week. Employees must forward a copy of the tuition waiver form after it has been signed by the Benefits Department, or a copy of their UNC One Card. The late fee is not waived for employees who submit their application after the deadline. UNC Chapel Hill employees who apply using the online application must submit the $25 late fee to the Friday Center via check or money order. You will not be able to submit a credit card payment online. If you're applying online and wish to pay via credit card, please contact Part-time Classroom Studies to provide a credit card number over the phone.
You are considered to be a new applicant if you seek to be a part-time student and have never before been enrolled in Part-time Classroom Studies. You are also considered to be a new applicant if you have been enrolled in Part-time Classroom Studies previously but have had a three-year or longer break in your enrollment. In this instance, your academic record will be reviewed in determining your status for admission.
If you are a new applicant who does not have a bachelor’s degree, you are considered to be a new undergraduate applicant. If you do have a four-year bachelor’s degree, you are considered to be a new postbaccalaureate applicant. If you are a non UNC-Chapel Hill applicant and have not officially received your bachelor's degree at the time of your application, you must provide verification of your impending degree (on school letterhead) from your school dean or registrar's office. Your application will not be processed until this information is received.
You are also considered to be a new undergraduate applicant to Part-time Classroom Studies if you are a degree-seeking undergraduate who has left Classroom Studies for at least one semester and taken course work at an institution other than UNC-Chapel Hill during that time. The work done outside UNC will need to be fully reviewed in determining your status for admission.
You are considered to be a readmission applicant to Part-time Classroom Studies if you have been enrolled in Part-time Classroom Studies during the past three years but not during the preceding fall or spring semester. (Degree-seeking undergraduate applicants who have taken courses outside UNC-Chapel Hill, as described above, are an exception to this rule.) Postbaccalaureate applicants applying for readmission to Part-time Classroom Studies apply through the Friday Center at my.UNC.edu, and there is no application fee. Undergraduate Part-time Classroom Studies students must reapply through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (see below for the application process).
The summer and fall online application will open on March 1.
The application process varies according to your status:
If you claim to be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes, you must fill out an additional form. See Residence Status for Tuition Purposes.
Once you are admitted as a Part-time Classroom Studies student, download a PDF copy of the Student Handbook, which contains the information on this Web site.
