Military Tuition Benefit
Certain members of the Armed Services and their dependent relatives may be eligible to be charged less than the out-of-state tuition rate even though they are not North Carolina legal residents for tuition purposes. You must qualify for admission to UNC-Chapel Hill and must file an application for the military tuition benefit and required affidavits with the admissions office before the first day of class for the semester for which the benefit is sought. To remain eligible, you must reapply before the first day of classes for the first semester in which you are enrolled during an academic year. Because of the time involved in securing the necessary affidavits, we urge you to obtain application forms from the admissions office and begin the process several weeks before the first day of classes. Procedures for appeals and University requests for review of eligibility determinations parallel those for residence status classifications as described above.
The foregoing is a brief summary of the military tuition benefit application process. For further information and a complete explanation of NC Gen. Stat. §116–143.3 (the military tuition benefit statute), contact Part-time Classroom Studies. All students are responsible for knowledge of the contents of the statute and the Manual.
