Welcome to the Friday Center for Continuing Education. In 1913 we began our work as UNC-Chapel Hill’s Bureau of Extension. Today, nearly 100 years later, our role within the University has been greatly expanded, but our work still focuses on one important goal—to extend our University’s remarkable resources to a broader population.
In 1991, our conference center doors opened and William and Ida Friday’s vision of creating a “citizen’s classroom” was realized. That vision has never been more apt than it is today. Technological advances and economic shifts are reshaping the traditional university education. Working adults are heading back to school to become more competitive in the workplace, and today’s students expect flexible, technology-enhanced learning experiences. Cross-disciplinary collaborations and other strategic partnerships across campus are opening up new areas of discussion and research. These evolving trends in the educational community have put continuing education in the spotlight, making the Friday Center’s work not only relevant, but essential to the larger work of the University and its constituents.
Through The Friday Center, learners from all walks of life have access to the University’s outstanding faculty, extensive knowledge base, and groundbreaking research. If you are not already a member of our community of learners and supporters, I invite you to join us. Find out more about current offerings here on our website, or stop by to visit us in person at the Friday Center. We are looking forward to getting to know you.
