Carolina Business Institute
May 19–June 18, 2008
Between cap and gown and the real world ... an intensive program about the business world for nonbusiness majors.
Carolina Business Institute is the perfect opportunity for current students as well as recent college graduates who did not major in business to acquire essential information about the corporate and business world. No previous knowledge of business is assumed, but the pace of learning is rapid.
For four and one-half weeks, Kenan-Flagler Business School graduates and faculty take Institute students through a maze of new terms and concepts. At the end of the Institute, students will have gained confidence in their business skills and will be better prepared to compete in the job market. Taught by faculty experienced in blending theory with applied business skills, the Carolina Business Institute offers an integrated program that includes classes in accounting, marketing, management and organization, finance, and operations management.
Method
Institute students work through a sequence of lectures and case studies based on real business situations. Students engage in interactive learning exercises and experience a computer-based management simulation. Working in teams, students manage their own business in competition with other teams. This hands-on approach provides valuable real-life simulation and demonstrates the application of business concepts to actual situations.
Admission is through application (see How to Apply). Attendance at all class sessions is required. Upon active participation and satisfactory completion of the Institute, students will be issued program certificates. Participants cannot earn academic credit for completion of the Institute.
Cost
The cost for Carolina Business Institute is $2,500. The fee includes four and one-half weeks of intensive instruction, books, computer access, a field trip to a manufacturing facility in the area, a parking pass, and other required materials. Students must provide their own living arrangements and meals.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Participants who cancel their enrollment prior to May 5 will receive a full refund, provided their enrollment space can be filled with another applicant. Cancellations must be received in writing. If the enrollment space cannot be filled, a partial refund of $1,700 will be given. Participants who withdraw from the Institute after May 5 will receive no refund.
